To mark 25 years as a record label, Heavenly Recordings are planning to take over the town of Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire for a weekend of gigs early next year. The label’s current roster will descend on the town to play a series of intimate shows at Trades Club between 22–25 January 2015. Introducing A Heavenly Weekend in Hebden Bridge in a guest column for Q, label founder Jeff Barrett looks back at 25 years of “believing in magic”…

It’s funny really, sitting at my kitchen table this morning thinking of what to say about an event that isn’t even happening for a few months. Three months is nothing though is it? Twenty-five years however, how did that happen?

How did I get to be so bloody lucky? Who said I was allowed to start a record label in the first place? I can’t even say that this is a childhood dream come true because, well, I didn’t dream it, I couldn’t have. Things like this don’t happen to people like me.

But here we are, about to mark a quarter century of Heavenly and although the time has gone quickly, it hasn’t passed me by.

That blows my mind. I have squeezed every single thrill out of my time in music. No opportunity to celebrate the joy has been missed. It’s been a blast, it still is, and that’s why we are having this weekend in West Yorkshire. We’re still at it, things are good, we have great bands, so let’s shout it from the rooftops.
