Embrace released their new, self-titled album on Monday (28 April) and according to frontman Danny McNamara it’s got “a lot of sides” (not just the standard two, or even four then?). To get him back to what he knows we put five special questions to him.
WHO would play you in the film of your life?
Someone with darting blue eyes and an “as is” appearance. Preferably someone in their 20’s who looks like he’s got a lot of secrets. Or Sean Bean. I do a mean Sean Bean.
WHAT are you currently working on?
We are currently in the studio working on the next single. It’s sounding darker, starker and yet somehow more immediate. It shows another side of the album which is good. The new Embrace Album has a lot of sides.
WHY do you do that thing you do?
Music has been everything to me since I left school. It’s like a whole food, i’ve been able live on it but unlike a whole food it’s pushed away and destroyed everything else I ever had. I do it now in spite of all that because of the feeling I get when I write a song that’s great. It lasts about ten minutes but for that short time i feel like god has stooped down and roughed my hair up and pinched my cheek. I feel like I have a place in the world.
WHERE do you see yourself in ten years?
I always imagine I will be happy and settled down and having kids and having a normal life. But i’ve been imagining that future for myself for the last 20 years so we’ll see eh. The signs are looking better than they have in a very long time.
WHEN will there be a harvest for the world?
It’s going to take Aliens or a big monster like Godzilla or something to pull us all together.
