Athens, Georgia’s Drive-By Truckers are set to bring their UK tour to close tonight (13 May) at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire… and clearly they’ve acclimatised during their travels, not only is their new album entitled English Oceans but they’ve made us a Playlist of “Songs for a rainy day”. “It’s new record release time and in addition to doing tons of press and packing for weeks long journeys, I get asked to compile the occasional playlist,” explains Patterson Hood. “When Q asked, I was told to pick a theme. At that moment I was listening to my favorite Pretenders song and its first line led the way. Oh yeah, it was also about to rain.”

The Pretenders – The English Roses

“My whole family are huge Tom Waits fans. My four year old son does an excellent Waits impression.”
