With the annual Le Beat Bespoke festival returning this Easter (2-5 April) to London’s 229 The Venue on Great Portland Street, organiser and DJ Rob Bailey has put together a Playlist of his favourite tracks that you can expect to hear this year, including an exclusive from the new Le Beat Bespoke compilation plus tracks from the artists appearing live. “Past acts at Le Beat have included cult heroes The Sonics for their first ever show outside the US. Both Arthur Lee & Johnny Echols of Love and a Stax Revue featuring Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn & Eddie Floyd have trod the Le Beat stage floorboards alongside rising young stars the Horrors, Strypes and Jacco Gardner,” explains Bailey of the event’s unique outlook. “After the live music at 11pm DJs from all over Europe play vintage vinyl from the golden era across three club rooms for an epic all-night party. There is also a market and record fair Saturday afternoon.” For the latest ticket news head to Newuntouchables.com/lebeatbespoke, but for now here are Rob’s selections.

The Group The Group – People In The Night

“To get us underway here is a track from the new compilation Le Beat Bespoke 6. The Group were a Wellington, New Zealand and released one obscure single on indie label Tree Records in 1969. It’s a big favourite at the legendary Mousetrap Allnighters in London.”

Purson – Death’s Kiss

“Purson are the first band to tread the LBB10 stage this Easter and here is the latest offering from this exciting young band who explore the recesses of reality set to a soundtrack of the three B’s, The Beatles, Bowie and Black Sabbath. Blurring the lines between their outer reality and inner realm, their debut album The Circle And The Blue Door paints this landscape.”

Wolf People – One By One From Dorney Reach

“This is a track from 2010 album Steeple from our headliners Thursday, a must see live band. Influences from bluesy psychedelic bands like Cream, Traffic and early Jethro Tull with a 21st century twist.”

The Misunderstood – I Can Take You To The Sun (pictured)

“John Peel hailed The Misunderstood as one of the greatest live bands he had ever seen and cited their 1966 single as one of his top ten records of all time. Don’t miss the chance to see them live at our 8 Hour Technicolour Dream bill on Good Friday.”

Kaleidoscope – Jenny Artichoke

“I could have included so many great songs from this seminal British Psych band who form part of a triple bill for our 8 Hour Technicolour Dream. A recent discovery of some old acetates in Peter Daltrey’s attic with some different cuts of Kaleidoscope classics will be available at Le Beat Bespoke 10.”

The Loons – Between Grey Slates

“The Loons from San Diego are fronted by Ugly Things magazine editor Mike Stax and have three impressive albums under their belt and a fourth album entitled Inside Out Your Mind that will be available at LBB10. This is a track from the third album Red Dissolving Lights Of Grey.”

“Gizzelle is the headline act at our WILD RECORDS revue on the Saturday night at LBB10. Jeff Beck was a huge fan and you can see why with this fine rendition of the Big Joe Williams classic performed by Them and so many of the Blues masters.”

Fairfield Parlour – In My Box

“At the end of the sixties Kaleidoscope became Fairfield Parlour under the watchful eye of new manager DJ Dave Symonds and released their debut album Home From Home on new label Vertigo. Expect a couple of tracks from FP album at LBB10 including this gem.”
