With Broken Twin, alternatively know as Majke Voss Romme, releasing her debut album May later this month (the record is out 28 April, just in time for May appropriately), the singer has been reflecting on the city that’s inspired her music. “Living in Copenhagen getting around on a bike is so easy. So I really love to bike around the city listening to music,” she explains, “or to walk around at night with headphones and no destination. I don’t know – there’s just something about music when you’re moving. Sometimes it provides the best inspiration.” Here is her Playlist of the best music to listen to while traversing Denmark’s capital.

Big Star – Thirteen

“Epic song that makes everything and everyone you’re looking at look better. I also really love the Evan Dando cover of this song.”

Serge Gainsbourg – Ballade De Melody Nelson

“If you ever get sick of Copenhagen (or anywhere else), this song will make you feel like you’re in Paris. Sort of. Also arrangement and sound wise this album is amazing.”

Nina Simone – Feeling Good

“Brilliant song. Especially in the morning sun! And even better if your bike got stolen, you’ve had to get around by public transportation and you’ve finally got a new one. Getting up on that bike – freedom in its most simple form.”

Blonde Redhead – Hated Because Of Great Qualities

“I was actually introduced to this song on the last tour driving around Europe. It’s a beautiful pop song that makes you want to sing along. Works on a bike too.”

The Smiths – There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

“A friend and I used to hear and sing this song very loud whenever we were biking towards a party. Red wine, good company and this song. It works every time.”

Grant Lee Buffalo – Fuzzy

“It happens quite a lot here that someone is passing me on a bike, wearing headphones and singing very loud as if no one else is around. This song makes me want to do that.”

Broken Social Scene – Lover’s Spit

“When I was working on the record there were times where it got very intense – where I worked constantly and completely lost track of time. Quite some times I would leave the studio late at night, run into loud people in the streets and realise it was a Friday or Saturday night. I felt like I was the only one not getting pissed having a crazy time. This song matches that feeling.”

Lou Reed – Sunday Morning (Animal Serenade)

“This is just a great live version of an even greater song. I love Lou Reed. This song is good for early morning walks, empty streets and hangovers.”

PJ Harvey – The Desperate Kingdom Of Love

“I love to hear this late at night walking in the streets. It’s simple, intimate and cut to the bone.”

Aphex Twin – Avril 14th

“A sweet little piece of piano music from a twisted mind. Will make every Copenhagen-rainy day seem a little lighter.”
