Green Man Festival, which takes place in Glanusk in Wales between 14 and 17 August this year, announced its first wave of acts today (4 February). To guide us through the line-up Music Programmer Ben Coleman has created this exclusive Playlist for Q. “We’re over the moon to have announced the first round of artists for this year’s Green Man Festival. With two massive headliners in Beirut and Neutral Milk Hotel and another yet to be announced, the festival promises to be our best ever,” he declares. “We have four late night dance/music areas that run until 4am, so expect loads more music additions to the bill, and we’ll also see the return of Talking Shop (our comedy and literature area) plus we’ve increased the beer and ale offerings for this year to include 150 locally sourced tipples. Can’t wait also for more people to take advantage of the Settler’s Pass; a seven-day ticket to combine a holiday with the festival.” If you like what you hear, head to Greenman.net.

Kurt Vile – KV Crimes

“Kurt Vile and Green Man is a match made in heaven. We try to get him to play every year, so are delighted to have him on the 2014 bill! Not sure KV know the next artist Michael Chapman but there’s definitely some similarity in the vocal delivery.”

Michael Chapman – It Ain’t So

“Michael Chapman is a legend but not somebody iI knew much about until a couple of years back. He’s making his Green Man debut at 73 and if you like guitars and great guitar players, don’t miss him.”

Anna Calvi – Suddenly

“We have loved Anna Calvi ever since her collaboration with Johnny Flynn, who is a GM favourite and a hit at last year’s festival. Anna’s new album One Breath has been much played in the GM office since it’s release on the brilliant Domino!”

First Aid Kit – The Lion’s Roar

FAK last played Green Man on the Walled Garden Stage. I remember seeing their Youtube hit cover of Fleet Foxes’ Tiger Mountain Pleasant Song and being blown away by them. With a new record in the wings, we are all in for a treat!”

Beirut – East Harlem

“I’m looking forward to Beirut getting everybody dancing! I’m also very much looking forward to their new record… They’re a brilliant good times band!”
