The Optimus Alive festival takes over Lisbon 10-12 July bringing headliners The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines to the Portuguese capital. For a sense of the bill the team behind the event have made us this Playlist.

Arctic Monkeys – Snap Out Of It

“For all who still thought the Arctic Monkeys were a hype invention from Britain’s alternative music press, the third single from their fifth album is probably the best answer: Snap Out Of It is one of the strongest pop songs of the last 12 month, and will surely put everyone jumping, dancing and romancing at this year’s Optimus Alive’s edition.”

The Black Keys – Fever

“The same can be said about The Black Keys. Like the Monkeys in Britain, Dan Auerback and Patrick Carney went from indie rock darlings to signing the defining lines of the current mainstream rock. Once more, a night of strong sing-along and feverish dancing is expected in Europe’s best seaside festival.”

Imagine Dragons – Demons

“At least four songs of Imagine Dragon’s debut album have been all over Portugal in the past months. TV, radio and clubs don’t seem to get tired of the quartet’s music after they sold out last year’s Lisbon Coliseum concert. Radioactive, On Top Of The World and It’s Time will surely be received as anthems by the joyous crowd that made Optimus Alive famous also for it’s easy-going festive ambient.”

Bastille – Pompeii

“Two days before his birthday, Bastille’s Dan Smith can start the party in Lisbon. The London band was one of the most requested acts for Optimus Alive 14 and festival fans from Brazil to New Zealand cheered all over the social networks when they were confirmed.”

Foster The People – Houdini

“Mark Foster’s band is currently touring the new album Supermodel but most of the Pumped Up Kids want to see both Foster The People’s albums on the setlist. We’re sure Coming Of Age and Best Friend will claim big applauses but everybody will jump with Houdini and whistle with Pumped Uk Kids.”

Sam Smith – Money On My Mind

“British singer-songwriter Sam Smith will bring his debut album In The Lonely Hour to the Heineken Stage on Friday July 11 and although he defines it as sad, his renditions of Disclosure’s Latch and Naughty Boy’s “La La La” will join this brilliant single on a pretty hot happy party.”

Elbow – New York Morning

“Fresh from their first UK number 1 album, Elbow are on the best timing to bring their progressive indie rock to Optimus Alive. Their unique mix of Genesis and Peter Gabriel with Radiohead and Talk Talk is at the same time epic and intimate and will surely fascinate the public of the Heineken Stage.”

Ben Howard – Keep Your Head Up

“The smooth acoustic songs revealed on his debut album Every Kingdom have been seducing critics and public for the last three years. An unique warm voice makes his lyrics easily understandable, adding reasons for the fanbase he already has established in Portugal.”

The Lumineers – Ho Hey

“Their debut album had more great songs then just the hit single “Ho Hey” but this was the track that caused a stir on radio, airplay and sales charts. Simplicity is the secret that the duo leading this five-piece band used, saying that all their songs can be played by anyone knowing how to play one instrument. At Optimus Alive, their acoustic folk and joyful chorus are expected to take the party to the limits.”

Chromeo – Jealous

“Together with all the funk adventures of their previous 3 albums, this year’s best dance track promises to transform Optimus Alive in a giant dancefloor. The Canadian duo will play the Heineken Stage on July 10 and we can’t wait to move our bodies at the rhythm of their party anthems.”
