Uniting house, techno, dub and disco with a host of talent from Bristol’s thriving underground, the Love Saves The Day festival returns for a third year on 24 and 25 May. With the likes of SBTRKT, Todd Terje and Nina Kraviz playing Castle Park organiser-directors Tom Paine and Dave Harvey have made us a Playlist of ten tracks from this year’s bill which embody the festival’s atmosphere.

Tessela – Hackney Parrot (Special Request VIP)

“Tom’s favourite tune of last summer by a long way. Even had Justin Martin dropping this at Garden Festival in Croatia (an amazing Adriatic sunfest we are involved in), which is pretty much exclusively house and disco, and the crowd going mental to it. You know it’s a great jungle tune when that happens! Plus you can never get tired of tape-pack samples… ‘Right Listen, I’ve just been told if anyones got a Fiesta parked inside the market you best move it, otherwise you’re walking home…. Right….? Come with the music…’ Love it.”

Jus Now – Tun Up (ft Bunji Garlin & Stylo G)

“This tune is actually over a year old now but we bet you it will be a massive smash this summer. Play it loud through a proper carnival sound system and you can’t help yourself but throw yourself around like a mad man. The Jus Now stage show is one of the best we’ve seen for years – forget Major Lazer, this is the next hype. Tom was actually out in Trinidad with them when they filmed the crowd shots for this. unfortunately it seems the takes he was in were left on the cutting room floor.”

Eats Everything – Entrance Song

“We love Daniel and it’s amazing to see him doing so well – he is technically one of the best DJs we have ever clapped eyes on and his personality and down to earth attitude endears him to everyone he meets. He’s taking to the main stage for us this year and there aren’t many people who can bring the energy needed for that. This was the track that really made him blow up so a fitting inclusion here.”

John Talabot – Destiny

“Another name we are really excited to be having down this year – we’re big fans of Mr Talabot, always interesting and diverse, his DJ sets are something pretty special – plus he’s a bloody lovely chap to boot which always helps. Pretty much everything that comes out on his label Hivern is worth a check and we’re confident he will bringing a bag of new new business so this should be great.”

Crazy P – Heartbreaker

“Very close friends of the Team Love family, Crazy P are one of our favourite live acts, full of passion and energy, their live shows never fail to go off. They’ve played with the full band for us before but this year they are returning with their soundsystem show featuring the marvellous Danielle Moore on vocals, plus Jim and Toddy on keys and guitar. Their record collections go deep and they know how to turn it out just as well behind the decks so we are gonna get the best of both worlds. Their latest EP on our label was a big release for us so you can expect plenty of that, tops off!”

Todd Terje – Inspector Norse

“We are big fans of Mr Olsen. We first brought him to Bristol to DJ in 2009 and had a scream – he got into cider and ended up going home with a second-hand flute, trumpet and selection of boogie records from Gloucester Rd so we’re hoping he’s got fond memories of our city! He’d always had a following amongst the more disco leaning fraternity but this tune totally blew him up and his new album is ace so we are really excited about having him on live.”

Neneh Cherry – Blank Project

“We had Neneh come and play live down at our 170 capacity bar The Love Inn, in February – about a week after we opened. As kids she was obviously a big deal, Buffalo Stance was a big tune and her material with The Thing was heavy but we weren’t sure what to expect. We were really feeling the new Four Tet produced LP but had no idea how it would be – she came and not only did she absolutely smash it but she was a total sweetheart as well, it was a fantastic night and everyone left really feeling like they had seen something pretty special – her band Rocket Number 9 are as tight as it gets and we can’t wait to see her performance on the mainstage at Love Saves.”

SBTRKT – Wildfire

“A really big booking for us – SBTRKT is hot property and hugely in demand so we were chuffed when we managed to bag this one. Anticipation is high for his new material, what we’ve heard so far is great and he’s super talented so we are really looking forward to checking the LP when it drops. This is an old fave of ours and features the wonderful Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon fame – they’re on the wish list for future years, fingers crossed!”

Sherwood & Pinch – Music Killer

“It goes without saying that Bristol’s musical story is heavily dub centred so it goes without saying that it’s great to be able to showcase a taste of that at Love Saves . These two are both proper heavyweights in that world – Sherwood has serious heritage, bringing artists together in the 80’s and working with the likes of Lee Scratch Perry, and Prince Far I and his On U Sound label still stands the test of time. Pinch has been at the very centre of the whole dub step movement from his Bristol base, his seminal Dubloaded right at the very heart of the scene so this new collaboration is gonna be heavy – watch yer bass bins I’m telling ya.”

Aba Shanti – Tear Down Babylon

From the brand new to the old school – last year we had Shaka bring his sound down and it was heavy – this year we are really lucky to have Aba coming down to take over the Vault stage. He’s been running his sound at Notting Hill since the early 90’s and anyone who has checked him will know, this is gonna be serious!”
