Wychwood Festival returns for is tenth anniversary year at Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire, at the end of the month (30 May- 1 June). Organiser Stefan Edwards selects his personal favourites from the bill.
King Charles – The Brightest Lights
“Loveblood is one of my favourite albums of the last few years and King Charles only gets better when you see him live. A great festival act, this is set to be one of my festival highlights.”
Bad Manners – Special Brew
“Old school high energy ska at it’s finest. Put a beer in someones hand, stand them in the sunshine and play this song and challenge them to dance. They will fail.”
The Levellers – What a Beautiful Day
“Cheerful, uplifting and lyrically perfect for closing the day at a beautifully sunny music festival. The Levellers have played for us before and have always been the most requested band to return, so we had to have them back to celebrate our 10th anniversary year.”
Wolf Alice – Bros
“After being gifted a seven-inch single of this song by someone with pretty damn good music taste I instantly became a big Wolf Alice fan, so was delighted when we booked them for the festival this year.”
Newton Faulkner – Dream Catch Me
“It’s great to see a hard working guy with a guitar get the success he deserves and Newton Faulkner has certainly done that. This is a great sing along festival pop song.”
Thrill Collins – In the Summertime
“I love this quirky cover of the classic Mungo Jerry song. Thrill Collins are a fun loving skiffle band who have become a popular feature of the festival and our now fondly known as our house band.”
The Stranglers – Golden Brown
“A slightly predictable choice, but I couldn’t resist… it is after all one of the most iconic songs ever written.”
KSH & The Going Goods – Happiness
“Another band who have played the smaller stages at Wychwood over the last few years and will be playing on the main stage this Summer. This song, like many of their others is really catchy and perfect for the Summer.”
Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer – Hail The Chap
“He went down a storm at Wychwood a few years ago so I can’t wait to see him again this year. I was also very amused by Mr B’s twitter feed in the days after Michael Gove announced himself as a fan.”
