Why now? Presley has released this recently recorded cover of the title track from Tom Waits’ 1980 album (also once controversially done by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins) while he puts the finishing touches to a new album, expected later this year. “If you’re ever stuck for an idea then listening to Tom Waits’ unleashes ideas you didn’t even know you had,” says Presley of Waits’ influence. “A constant inspiration. The groove on Heart Attack and Vine got me the first time I heard it. Such a storyteller!” Meanwhile, JJP and his band will play London’s Shacklewell Arms on 20 April, with more dates to be announced soon.
