The film, directed by Anaïs Wrench-Roumens was made close to the singer-songwriter’s home in Sheffield and was inspired by photographer Murad Ossman’s 2012 Instagram project that featured his girlfriend leading him around the globe.

Hawley has adapted the concept to his own life, following what he’s seen on his tours around the world.

“The song is about mentors, about people who give their time to others unselfishly out of friendship and love without thought of reward,” Hawley tells Q of the single. “When you think about it your time is really precious so to give it to someone else is a very powerful gift. I’ve had so many mentors in my life and I’m grateful for all that time they gave me.”

Heart Of Oak is taken from Hawley’s forthcoming album Hollow Meadows, his eighth studio album, released on 11 September. Watch the video now.
