Tate McRae is back in the studio and working on new music following the success of her hit single "Greedy."
The update came in an Instagram post on Jan. 21. It included ten images, the last of which showed the pop star in a studio with a producer.
"Back into the swing of things," the 20-year-old wrote in the caption.
McRae's 2023 album Think Later was produced by Ryan Tedder, who's also worked with pop stars like Adele, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. The album's big hit "Greedy" made it to the No. 1 spot on the singles chart in McRae's native Canada and the No. 3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The track has also been certified platinum in Australia and New Zealand.
"The song genuinely scared me – how fast it was and how much energy it had," McRae told the BBC during an interview last year. "This is not my usual sound."
Fans in the comment section were also excited to see a mirror selfie McRae took with Olivia Rodrigo. The pair was with actor Judd Apatow's youngest daughter Iris at the time.
"Dude, Olivia and Tate being literal besties is SO ICONIC," one Instagram user said. "We need Olivia and Tate to collaborate," said another.
Rodrigo is slated to perform at the Grammys on Feb. 4. She received six nominations ahead of this year's ceremony, including one for Album of the Year.
McRae originally hails from Calgary, where the singer was spotted at an NHL on the night of Dec. 16.
Hockey is clearly very important to her. The music video for "Greedy" was shot at an ice rink where McRae was filmed riding a zamboni. She also donned hockey shorts, padded gloves and a bejeweled mouthguard for the clip, but didn't let the bulky equipment didn't stop her from performing a series of stunning dance moves.
The singer began her time in the spotlight as a dancer. She performed alongside Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato, appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show, and even came in third place on the 13th season of the American version of So You Think You Can Dance in 2016.
McRae went on to study with Canada's Alberta Ballet Company and Germany's Berlin State Ballet.
Her music career took off in 2017 when she posted an original piano track called "One Day" to her YouTube channel. In the intro, the singer said she had written the entire track in less than an hour the night before. The clip has since been viewed more than 40 million times.
McRae will return to Calgary for a hometown show at the Cowboys Music Festival on July 5.
The show is part of a larger worldwide tour the singer announced last year. She will visit North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The trek will begin in Dublin on April 17 and end in Wellington, New Zealand, on Nov. 21.
